Step 1; Understand the coupon policy; This may seem like common sense or not something you should look at, but it should be the first step! Read Dollar General’s coupon policy. The only thing I would add is that some DGs will not accept printed coupons printed at home. Each policy allows for denials.
Step 2; Sign up for a Dollar General account. This will give you access to Dahl e-coupons. You must have an email address and phone number. They will want you to confirm the cell phone number by sending a code, so you must use a number you have access to. Download the DG app in the App Store
How to use Dahl eCoupons
Go to your app and look to explore digital coupons
Tap on the coupon you are interested in and the coupon will show all eligible products available for that coupon
Click on the product you want to purchase and all eligible products such as sales will appear. In this case, when you spend $16.00, you will see an immediate savings of $3.00 on the Scott Thin Paper, which means that you are eligible for immediate savings when you spend $16.00 worth of Scott products. You will want to check out the product as well as the current sales on that item because it could mess up your deal if you try to buy a certain threshold. This usually screws up when you try to do a $5/$25 deal on a Saturday.
Clip the coupon and go to the store and buy what you want. Make sure you clip them before you leave.
Go to the checkout and enter your phone number into the desk at the checkout.
This is the little machine located near the cash register.
Now, everything should go according to plan, but sometimes it doesn’t. We will discuss this in a later post.
Don’t rely on application totals, inventory totals, etc. Why?
Some people will rely on the app to calculate your Saturday transaction totals. The app gives you the original price in your listing and then removes the sale or promotional price at the end, which will give you a false subtotal and give you discounts that don’t qualify in some cases. The app is run by a third party and it will never give you the correct stock figures as it is not updated in real time. It also makes it hard to place a pickup order because it may say it’s in stock when it’s not.
