The best things in life are free. With Freecycle and Craigslist, you can get quality items for free! What we’ve done. Now we want to share our findings with you.
Here are some of the great items we found from freecycle and craigslist.
FREECYCLE network.
What is Freecycle?Freecycle is an email group based network where people can offer things they no longer want or ask for things they need. It’s easy to use and it’s all over the country. Recently, I responded to an offer from a freecycle company that said : “Offer:Cat Litter. I have (2) 25. boxes of cat litter I can’t use they are brand new and unopened.” Since I have three cats, I jumped at the chance to buy a couple boxes of high end cat litter – about $25 worth in total! The person who provided them even brought them to me! Here’s the total score.
I was also able to get a new, unopened basket of baby bath products that someone received as a giveaway gift and didn’t want. At the time, my kids were young, so I knew we’d use all those baby and shampoo products (combined- $$$).
But it’s not just about receiving – sometimes it’s nice to have someone take something from you. Maybe it’s a big item you were going to haul away. Or something that doesn’t work like a TV or computer that someone would be happy to take apart for parts. My sister got rid of an old sewing machine this way. She just left it on the curb and the person who wanted the item (it said it didn’t work) came and happily took it.
Sometimes it’s good to help others. This holiday season, a special education teacher listed on Freecycle that she was looking for pine cones for an art project at her school. I was more than happy to pick up a bag of pine cones from my yard for her students’ homework.

CRAIGSLIST.
Did you know that your local Craigslist site has a list of free items in the “For Sale” section? While browsing my local Craigslist site, I saw the following free items: clothes dryers, lumber, bookcases, pet fish, bearded dragons, treadmills, smart phones, working refrigerators, antique pianos, scrap metal …… and many others.
A friend of mine told me: “I have a beautiful roll top desk – solid wood, dovetail drawers, back. Honestly, it’s the best piece of furniture we’ve ever owned. And it was free on Craigslist.”
Often, people who list garage or estate sales on Craigslist will start giving away items after the sale closes. Sometimes it’s the next day, sometimes it’s right after closing. Estate sales usually take place the next day, and there’s almost always a large crowd waiting for the doors to open. One Bargain Babe reader told me, “I have a lot of these. It’s a great way to buy Christmas decorations, picture frames, baskets and storage boxes. The best value I found was a Conair Infiniti curling iron that retailed for $120.”
